This type of lens blocks light rays travelling in certain planes which minimises the intense glare from highly reflective surfaces such as water and snow. An ideal lens for water sports, snow, driving and other activities where reflected glare can be a problem.
The lens adapts to changing light conditions, it is clear in dull light, but when conditions get brighter, the increase in light intensity causes a chemical change within the lens and it darkens to compensate. A very versatile lens which is appropriate for many activities where light conditions may change such as running, cycling sailing and golf.
A great all purpose lens. It reduces light intensity without altering colour perception, it enhances contrast and reduces glare in bright conditions. Ideal for general use, leisure wear, and many sports such as fishing and cycling.
These tints intensify light and tune contrast. The yellow lens should be used in dull conditions and is typically used in activities such as running and cycling.
The brilliance of the white snow surroundings reduces our ability to judge changes in terrain, so snow tints are designed to limit spectrum of light, improving visual clarity in the snow environment. Gold/amber tints increase contrast in brighter light, red/pink help in lower light.
These tints are shown to be relaxing for the eye and also tune contrast in medium to bright conditions. Visual discomfort is reduced which means this lens tint is ideal for longer, endurance activities such as cycling and running.
Oakley, Nike, Bolle and Rudy Project all produce a specialised golf tint which enhances the colour green, allowing the contours of the fairways and greens to be seen better. The ball is more easily followed as it stands out against the background.
